Leaving Christie's King Street in the heart of London in 1999, after four happy years there, was not a pleasant experience. It was of course foolhardy of me to blow the whistle on a director for trying to pass off his partner's fake antiques as genuine. I moved on swiftly to greener pastures, but a real catharsis only came fifteen years later, when in early 2014, together with French and Colombian business partners, I set up Bogotá Auctions, the first professional auction house for fine art and collectibles in Colombia. Since the launch of that venture, I have conducted over a dozen auctions of fine paintings and sculptures, contemporary art, stamp designs, used cars and old toys, and it is always a blast. It was an ambitious project in an immature market, but it was also fun and continues to the present.
